Literary Letdown

So, I spent all summer devouring vampire books, Harry Potter, and all manner of travel guidebooks. Now I need a really good read. . . Not something I have to trudge through . . . Something I can't put down. Something I can't wait to get back to when I have to go to work or something. Any ideas?

Try NEXT by Michael Crichton. Very interesting. I am listening to it now (library). A bunch of little stories (continued through out the book) about genetic experiments and testiing. A 'What if..." book. Slow at first (confusing a little with the change of stories), but very interesting. Get attached to characters.

I put the book you and Sina said I had to host for our next book club on hold at the library but I am #63 so it may be a while.

I couldn't put down The Other Boelyn Girl. Check it out, historical fiction with romance, murder, and all the intrigue of a royal court. If you are looking for high quality literature however...I also couldn't put down Edith Wharton's House of Mirth.

Mar and Paris-- I put them both on hold.

Deli-Sub-- We're going to need a title for that.

Are we starting a book club?

We already did . . . Remember? That was how the whole vampire thing started.

I just read the kite runner by Khaled Hosseini. I read it in two afternoons. It was great!

Really? I listened to half of it on tape and was so irritated with the main character I never finished it. I've heard he gets better. I should give it another try.

You need to finish it! It is a great story of redemption. Give it another try.

Animal, Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver is the book that you and PSM said I had to do for the book club that she came up with idea of doing. I may break down and buy it (heaven forbid). I will let you know.

I'm #67 on the waiting list at the library for Animal Vegetable Miracle. Apparently it's pretty popular. They have 28 copies so I should have it in 2-3 months.

The Other Boleyn Girl and Next are ready for pickup and I have the Kite Runner on my bookcase. Looks like I'm ready to go. :)

Is Next the same as the movie that just came out with Nicholas Cage?

Daph, interested in another vampire book(s), try Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice and Peeps (don't know author). I haven't read Peeps, but Alex is. Another teen book about a vampire 'bacteria' or something like that. For a non-vampire, but still 'supernatural' try: Cradel and All by James Patterson. It is about 2 virgins that are pregnant. One is the Anti-Christ and one is Christ. A mystery. Good but a little racey (rated R).
